Red light means failure, burning smell means potential fire hazard.

Unplug it at the mains immediately.

What TV model is it, who did you buy it from, and is it still under warranty?

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

The flashing red light is an indication of a major malfunction with the TV.

And if you can smell burning then that is confirms things.

Stop using the TV.

It might have been useful to include the TV model you are talking about,

what age is it and is it still under warranty.

If it is old and out of warranty it will probably be too expensive to repair, so buy a new one.

My TV LED is red and blinks multiple times

Unfortunately, a red blinking LED is not a good sign. There are several steps you can undertake to solve this problem. Perform each step before moving on to the next one.

  1. If the TV blinks seven times, check if it's not overheating: ensure there is ample space behind the TV to provide ventilation. For any other number of blinks, continue to step two
  2. Turn the TV OFF and ON again by using the TV remote control or the power button located on the TV. Please take this opportunity to disconnect all devices connected to your TV to ensure they're not causing the issue.
  3. Unplug your TV and leave it unplugged for two minutes. (This is called a power cycle).
  4. If possible, update the TV software to the latest version
  5. Perform a factory reset, or a forced factory data reset. You can perform a factory reset via the settings menu. A forced factory data reset is done by using the buttons on the TV and is used when you can't access the settings menu

BTW, if its blinking red and smells, its obvious its overheating, make sure all the vents are clear, not clogged up with dust or anything and make sure nothing behind tv is too close, it appears not to be the end following the steps mentioned but you will need to resolve whats causing it to overheat.

Hey @uveexxxx

I'd prefer that you contact Sony right away, as they have a specific department for such cases, so they can advise with the safest thing to do regardless of the warranty status and the service of the device.

Also, how many times does it blink red? Or is it a constant red light?
