Sony kd-48a9 and sonos surround system

I have a Sony kd48a9 and sonos arc, sub and 2xones surround system.  I am struggling to balance voice and action noises.  Sonos believe its an issue with TV settings.  Does anyone else have this set up? If so what settings have you chosen on the TV.  I believe its to do with compressed or standard and audio 1 or 2.  Ive selected different ones but have the same issue.  The worst culprit is action noises such as gun shots etc

I disagree with Sonos here. Sony Sound bars have the option to adjust the voice clarity to deal with this situation. The TV just relays the signal as it is to the Sound bar which does all the processing.

Doesn’t that depend on whether you select Bitstream or PCM out?

The straight relay only happens on Bitstream; with PCM, the TV will process the sound first.

After which another consideration becomes the bandwidth available to send the signal to the Sonos; optical doesn’t have enough to pass uncompressed Bitstream, and while HDMI does, this may only be over eARC, not ARC.

The net effect is that @gahanle is likely to be constrained to use PCM, hence Sonos’ assertion.

Nevertheless, having to use PCM need not make an audible difference, if any Sony sound processing is turned off, after which the Sonos settings can indeed be used.

Though the Sony sound settings should be able to deal with gunshots; Night Mode for instance, to compress the dynamic range, if this can be pre-applied as part of the PCM processing

Yes it is connected with earc.  PCM does not allow for dolby atmos I dont believe.  It may just be the case that sonos is meant to be like that.  Im tweaking settings each day

I imagined as much, if it's set to Auto 1 or 2 and using eARC, I don't see why a good Sound bar would be limited by the TV in this case.
