Changing Optical Audio Output is no longer available to support receivers brand integrating e-ARC

I was trying to find an AV receiver to connect to my Sony Android TV to listen to surround sound.

Funny remarks are

- Sony introduced a-ARC recently I guess

- ARC cannot output surround, e-ARC and Optical can output surround

- Old TV Software one could change Optical Audio Output volume by changing main volume

- what a coincidence that it seems at 2019 update for the TV, the ability to change volume of the TV Audio Optical output by changing main volume was cancelled.

- 2018 Receivers from other brands had only ARC and Optical Connections

- 2019 Receivers from other brands started to have e-ARC and Optical

so as a conclusion if you want to connect your TV to surround system most likely the only was is the connect it with e-ARC and get 2019 new AV Receiver

Hi @khaeid2, thanks for your contribution here

We had a similar discussion arise last year, which included this comprehensive audio set-up analysis from another contributor, @dutchice

Maybe have a read of that – I'm not sure your conclusion is altogether correct regarding older AV receivers, but maybe you guys could compare notes here?

Cheers

Mick
