I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Still on target @Anonymous yes, but the release notes yesterday dropped the twin tuner support from the pre-24th December release for the UK.
I like others on here am concerned if the update drops on the 24th and bricks the TV.
However, the devil may be in the detail - the support page states "available before 24th December"
It may be wishful thinking that it might be sooner, but you never know.
Sorry which TV model you guys are talking about reg update?
Is it for all 2015 Models ? mine is Sony kd55x8005c
Thanks
@Anonymous,
That little nugget about the update being non UK wasn't there early this morning when I read the page, it's been added.
@elraouk it didn't say that when I looked either, I took a screenshot at 11:02.
I hope they incorporate the stability fixes for UK sets on 24th Dec. Last night I switched it off and before I got out of the door it came on by itself.
I'm concerned that the Ireland update has been pushed back until Feb 16, and as the UK models supposedly have more complexity to the software that can only lead us to presume that our update will come *after* the Ireland one in Feb?
Sony's excuse of it being a "new technology" doesn't wash either. Android TV is *not* a new technology, it's been around for years, and it was Google TV before that. So this is supposed to be a "new technology"?
Phillips and Sharp both have Android TV built in, and they don't seem to have any problems. Any number of Android TV standalone boxes don't have problems. It's just Sony.
Hi
May I know which update you are referring to. I have not updated my TV (W805C) with the October update. But I am just thinking whether I should do it. As of now there are few issues like like EPG not working, HDD not working, flickering of the channels while changing to a different channel. No reboots whatsoever and 3D is working fine. I do not want to do it if 3D is going to be lost.
thanks
Hello people, sorry to intrude..! I will most probably be participating more often since I am about to receive my KD43X8305 and I am sure it will not be bug free.
I have a question which troubles me lately. I bought the tv through Amazon.co.uk but I leave in Greece. So which firmware path should I follow..? The one for UK or rest of Europe..?
Thank you…
