How to convert avchd or mts files from the Sony dsc-hx50v to Photo from Apple?

Ever since I switched from iPhoto to Photo on my iMac, that iPhoto program does not import the video files from my dsc-hx50v camera's SD-card.

I tried various for free program's e.g. VLC, but it' a serious hassle.

Is there an official Sony solution?

Any other suggestions?

Good experiences?

Hi @Head2Sony, welcome to the Community.

You have two options there: either set your camera to shoot MP4 (which should open on Apple devices) or process the default AVCHD file from your camera in a proprietary app – PlayMemories is the Sony free app for this, and there are others on the App Store I've not used, but they do get decent ratings.

In my experience, the open-source convertors are the best. I would recommend Handbrake; it's the most intuitive in use and you get a decent file out of default settings – other apps are fiddly to use and can produce very large files, while the quality is no better.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers
