Sony Xperia 1iii

I have a Sony Xperia 1iii.   I keep losing the ability to use finger print recognition.   Sometimes the option disappears from the security menu.

On restarting it comes back into operation, however after an hour or so it disappears again.

I've tried cleaning it. Makes no difference
