Connecting KDL42W7 television to Orbitsound sound bar via optical

Hi,

I have a Sony Bravia KDL42W7 connected to an Orbitsound sound bar via an optical cable (the sound bar has no HDMI connection).

The sound is fine BUT... I want the volume control of the TV to change the volume of the soundbar and I can't seem to manage it. Under settings, I've selected external speakers. But when I try to change the volume, the volume of the soundbar remains as it is.

Can anyone help? Having a remote just for the soundbar volume is annoying!

Hi there

Unfortunately its not possible. Reason for this is because the optical cable is only feeding data one way only. This is where HDMI connections and HDMI-CEC (Bravia Sync) comes in handy - as information can be fed both ways.
