I thinki Rich912 suggestion is to be follows. Actually Roxio's software should provide you with a Sense code error message after failing to write. For example:
Sense: 03 ASC: 73 ASCQ: 03 (Command 2A)
If you check on Link
you take the corresponding values:
Sense key 3
ASC 73
ASCQ 03
---> Power Calibration Area error.
This usually indicates your media is of bad/poor quality. Of course it's hard to say which media is actually good since very few brands produce their own media. Tayo Nyuden make good stuff but I don't think they can be found easily in the shops. I have had no problems (so far) with Benq or Platinum media. What media have you been using (brand & type)?

It could be that having both Roxio and Nero installed is causing a conflict.

Have a look at the following link and scroll down to 'Power Calibration Error '

LINK

I had similar problems which disappeared when I uninstalled Roxio.

In fact I had to uninstall both Roxio and Nero - and then reinstall Nero.

Roxio is a serious pain, had it on my old Win98 system and it made coasters. Changed to Nero and was happy.
