Need Help with a PCG-Z600NE

Hi I wondered if anybody can help me, my problem is:

I bougt a PCG-Z600NE with Win98 second editon. As I weren't happy at all with Win98, I made a full new installation in Win XP Pro, and now there are several things that don't work;

when I insert a memory stick duo with the adapter (MSAC-M2) both original sony, my windows ask me to format the memorystick in order to use it, I agree and receive the failure "disk could not be formatted". I tried the same with WinXP Home, and same failure. (The full new installation is composed of a diskformat amd then installation)

My second problem is that my jog dial doesn't work under WinXP anymore, neither with the original sony driver (i got from the suport site of sony), neither with the right software, also got from the suport site.

Another problem perhaps someone can help me is, I want to exchange the 12GB hardisk with a larger one (eg 20GB) and I can't open the laptop without breaking some plastic!? does anybody have a manual how to open the laptop to get to the hardisk?

Hi klenge_Mup and welcome to Club Vaio.

Is the memory stick a PRO Duo? If so it is not compatible with your model, otherwise make sure that you have installed all available Sony utilities.

Jog Dial also has other dependences – this link should help.

I can’t find any disassembly instructions for your particular model but here is a link to instructions for the Z505SX which should be very similar.

The link you sent me to that list with the programs, I couldn't follow. Which programs do I have to install additionally except from the jodial utility?

With the memorystick, isn't there a possibility of making a firmewareupgrade or something in that direction so that my laptop suports the duopro??

The link to the Z5058X was extremely helpful, now I manage to get to the HD thank you!

You need to install the following (If available):

1 Sony Utilities
2 Sony Shared Library
3 DV Shared Library
4 UI library
5 Smart Shared Library
6 VDO Codec
7 MPEG Decoder

As far as I am aware there is no update that will enable your present device to read MS PRO Duo. I suggest that you buy an external USB card reader if you really do need this.
