Marks on Screen

Hi all,

new to the forum. I bought a Sony Vaio B Class Laptop about 10 months ago. Slowely i noticed a few random marks around the edges of the screen. They were annoying at first, but didn't cause any functional problems so I ignored them. However these marks are getting progressively worse and have started spreading to the middle of the screen.

The marks look like pressure has been applied to the screen so I assume it is from where the screen has been resting against the keyboard when the laptop is closed. To me this looks like a design fault.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? What is the best way to fix it? Would the warranty cover this problem?

What colour are they?
This sort of thing happened to a Toshiba in school and it needed repairs costing the school nearly £500!

Hi

For £500 you would be on your way to a new laptop. at probably a better spec.
My advice would be to keep hold of the protective sheet that was placed between the screen and keyboard when you first bought you laptop.

Well it wasn't my laptop, and it was 1996 and that laptop was around £2,000

yes i wish i did

still think it's a fault of sony's design though that this can happen in 6 months. i'm wondering if this kind of thing is under warranty? anyone else had this problem fixed. Can't cost £500 to fix nowadays?

LCDs are very expensive even 10 years on.

Hi

I have a FS215B and I am going to start to use the packing again, I stopped when I noticed the fairly large gap between the screen and the keys. But after your problem Ill be putting it back. I guess that a small mount of pressure on the laptop when it is closed will be enough to make it touch, so packing and storage might be worth looking at once you have had it fixed. I keep mine in a slip cover I got at PC World for about £20.00. It’s a soft one so it fits snug, I then places it in my case and I try not to put anything else on top, like power supplies etc

Hope you get it fixed under warranty, but don’t hold your breath.

LOL I thought that only I did that....:smileygrin:

I use the thin packaging that was placed between the keyboard and screen, when I place my laptop in the zeroshock sleeve I purchased, if I am going to carry my laptop out of the house for any period of time...
