topic OK....check your screws...!!! in PCs & Accessories

A295HP Power & Battery light flash but won't boot

Hi.
Has anyone come across this problem before?

When starting the laptop the power & battery light flash....but that's it. I won't progress any further.

I have to remove any source of power (battery and mains) to reproduce the problem.

If I leave the power connected, repeated pressing of the power button produces nothing.

I have seen a VAIO do this before but the laptop was under warranty so I didn't get to see the resolution.

Any ideas?

RAM Memory updates done?
anything connected to the Vaio?
Any memorystick or PCMCIA cars inside it?

Hi Thanks for the reply,

Nothing is attached nor are there any cards inserted...PCMCIA or memory stick.

However...no RAM updates have been done, which could be a little tricky now...:smileylaugh:

OK...I think I've found the solution elsewhere on the forum. All I had to do was re-seat the memory.

booted up like a dream after that. :smileygrin:

Reference my last post. It wasn't a case of reseating the memory. The problem returned.

After 4 days of soak testing, intermittent faulting, dismantling and re-assembly....it turns out that one of the screws from under the keyboard had unscrewed itself.

It was floating around under the motherboard occaisionally grounding out against the chassis and components.

Once the screw dropped out and was returned to its rightful place....the problem stopped.

That's strange
