How can I log on without having to reset my notebook to factory setting?

Hi kenzul,

Welcome to Club Vaio,

Have you checked that Caps lock is not on as passwords are case sensitive..

Also not sure if it's possible but have you tried booting into safe mode (f8) logging on as administrator, then goto Start > Control Panel > User Accounts, click on your user name and select remove password...

Also I seem to remember that when you are in Safe mode you are able to reset your user password via the CMD prompt but I cant remember what the command is, maybe somebody else will..:smileyblush:

Is it Start>Run>control userpasswords2>OK ?

I think you are right Thalamus. For XP Home you can only logon as the computer Administrator in Safe Mode. The Administrator password is blank by default.

1. Open in Safe Mode
2. Log on to Windows as the Administrator - password should be blank.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK:
control userpasswords2
4. Click the user account that you forgot the password for, and then click Reset Password.
5. Type a new password in both the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and then click OK.

A word of warning - you will be unable to access any files or emails which have been encrypted under the old password. To access these (if you have any), you will have to change the password back to your original - if you can remember it !
