PCG-791M - LCD does not light up

Hi. I have a Sony Vaio laptop. The screen doesnt come on but the lights on the front do. Any ideas. Ive been told its possibly motherboard, how much are they to replace. Can I also check if it is in warranty? I did not buy from a dealer

Try plugging in a monitor? Do you see a picture on there?
If you do then it's more than likely your inverter which has gone kaput

thanks for the reply. Tried that but no good, but wasnt sure if it was coming on or not. Tried pressing the f8 key (I think it was that f number) to switch between laptop and plugged in monitor but no good
??

Did you try Fn + F7?

Have you perssed the left or right arrow key afer the Fn+F7 key?

No, I think I have pressed just about every other key
