Good Afternoon/ Evening

VGN - FS115S problems
---------------------------------

I have bought my first laptop (private sale) however after taking it homeit booted up at a snails pace!

Thereafter, I attempted a rebuild with XP pro. Got the baby working,
however I have a few issues since I havent got the original cds with the laptop. Been to sonys website via my other pc and downloaded everything, burned on cd, transfered to laptop and got only a few things working. I checked the device manager and a list of question marks came up!! All had the followed property code (28). Not installed correctly.

With repeated attempts I have come to a standstill because both the network card and usb controllers are not working. Thus meaning I cannot get it on the web to do any automatic updates etc.

When I try to install the audio drivers it says I need XP-service pack 1
and higher.

I know this is all novice stuff to the senior gurus out there, but I would be gratefull if anyone could help me here.

Here is the list of the devices that currently have issues:

1) Mass Storage Controller
2) Network Controller
3) PCI Device
4) SM Bus Controller
5) Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

just recover the unit and remove the software you don't need...

I have done a fresh-/clean install, the laptop has no other software than
the OS xp. Drivers for the video card (nvidia).

Any other suggestions,

By the way I have now upgraded the service pack to 2.

The usb/ and SM controller question marks have now disappeared.

The other three remain.

Ok were getting there,

Ive just installed an update to the chipset, and only have the question
marks for the
1) PCI controller
2) Mass storage controller

Dont know what esle to do?

- still have no-sound even though it says they are working
properly

OK folks,

Ive worked out the mass storage problem,

NOW JUST THIS PCI DEVICE FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:smileycry:

Need to find whats the error here.

Thanks folks!! I solved it myself.

This post was like a one day diary of a novice!!!!

Anyway the fault was to do with the sound drivers have to seperate installs. Also I updated the BIOS drivers too.

Thereafter I installed the modem drivers!!!!

NO all 100% working!!!!!

Just need to get the broadband connected and zip me gone!!!!!

Anyone recommend a suitable virus/ firewall application?????????

Both Zonealarm and AVG are popular and are both free..:smileyhappy:

Also it may be worth installing a Spyware program such as Spybot

Hey there connectenglish.
I have similar problems when i tried to install win xp pro on my vaio FS315S:smileysad:
The only question mark i have under devices is the network controller. How did you sort that one out?
