I am not familiar with this model but assuming that you do not even see the clock etc. when the keyboard is hinged back against the screen it could very well be the inverter that has failed or, as Blencogo suggested, has bad connection at the motherboard end. The cable that you mention possibly comes from the inverter located in the main box of tricks.

On a VGC-M1 with flip up screen, my screen went dark. Shining a light on it showed that it was working perfectly. I presumed the backlight was gone and purchased a screen on e-bay to find the same issue. !! At the back of the screen there is a small 5-6cm circuit with 1 cable in and two out on the right. If this is unplugged then the screen still works but with no backlight as before.I suspect this may be faulty. Any Ideas??

Why oh why did they not have an external monitor port..

Hi shemas and welcome to Club Vaio.

Sounds like a repair is needed - it looks like a bad connection.

As you bought a second screen I presume your Vaio is over a year old and out of warranty. If it isn't, contact Vaio-Link Support for a repair.

If it is out of warranty, you will have to find an engineer to have a look at it (unless you are confident enough to attempt it yourself). Have a look on Nextronics to find a plan of your Vaio and order any parts.

EDIT: Unfortunately, your model does not seem to be listed.

[:">]
