BOOTMGR is missing

can anyone advise me please. I bought a Sony veio Slv all in one pc that had a new hard drive in it. I then bought a windows 7 disc and tried to install it but half way through it said unable to locate drivers. So then I put the driver disc in and then nothing. Since then, it comes up BOOTMGR is missing. I tried to configure it in the bios set up but nothing. Then.... I was just checking the box for the serial number and [Edited by moderator]? It said oparating on windows 8. What do I do please folks? Have I damaged my system? Is it recoverable. Please advise desperate woman.
