Anyone know if Windown 10 will install ok on a VAIO PCG-2J1M?

Hi NickC_UK2.

Can you look for the correct model name? It will be something like VGC-JS2E - have a look at the screen surround, bottom right. You will also find the model in the BIOS or in Control Panel -> VAIO Control Centre -> System Information.

I have no idea why Sony have two model codes - I think the one you have taken off the back of the Vaio refers to the chassis type and covers many different models.

If it is a VGC-JS2E, it will have been sold with Windows Vista preinstalled and Sony do not support the running of Windows 10, so no bespoke drivers or utilities will be available.

So you will be on your own. The hardware requirements for Windows 10 are almost the same as for Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, so the Vaio will probably run Win 10 but download the Windows 10 compatibility checker before you try so you will be aware which hardware and drivers may not work and will require some research to see if a fix is possible.

Personally, on a PC of this age, I would stick with Windows 7.
