Hi,

I got my Vaio from someone because he bought a new notebook.
This Vaio has problems with the hard disk and I may have to replace it. Is there any description how to open the Vaio to reach the hard disk?

Next another problem came up. The thing is completely dead and I think the adapter is dead. It doesn't get warm after 10 minutes as suggested in some solution.
My question: can I use any adapter that gives 19.5V and 3.3A?

Thanks for any info!

Hi,

I just could use an adapter of another Vaio (same adapter) and still nothing. I tried my adapter on his Vaio and it worked fine.

Are there fuses on the motherboard that I can check? How can I get to them?

Thanks for any info!
Peter

Peter,

On the bottom of the PCG-Z600TEK there are 12 screws indicated by arrows. Undo these screws.

Now unclip the covers over the speakers - they're a bit fiddly but should just unclip. Underneath these covers there are 2 screws (under each). Undo these.

Now, you should be able to lift the keyboard (without unplugging it). Lift it up and there's one screw in the centre just under the top of the keyboard. Undo this screw.

Now carefully separate the top from the bottom of the case - you may want someone to hold the keyboard up (so you don't have to unplug it). Watch out for the USB and fan covers falling off - although putting them back isn't a problem.

A small cable connects the trackpad to the motherboard - you may need to disconnect this if you haven't got someone to hold things for you.

On the right front of the vaio is the hard disk. Unscrew the connections for the jog dial unit and lift it to one side.

Now undo the two screws holding the hard disk in place. Carefully push the ide connector off the hard disk and the disk should now be free.

Undo the brackets from the hard disk (remembering which way round they are) and replace the hard disk in the reverse order.

The cable for the trackpad can be a bit fiddly to put back in place but with a bit of force it goes in alright.

As far as the adapter is concerned I can't really help - does the vaio work ok on batteries?

Hope this helps.

Simon,

Thank you very much. I think this will help a lot!
The covers over the speakers is the part that I couldn't find.
I will try this tonight as I have to go to work now but I'll let you know the results.

As for the adapter. At the moment it doesn't work at all but I know the adapter is ok as I tried it on another Vaio. Are there any fuses inside the Vaio that can be broken and that I can replace?

Thanks,
Peter
