DDR 333 vs DDR 266

I bought a VAIO GRT916V with 512 DDR333 (2700). I have another VAIO GRX616SP with 1 GB DDR266 (2100). I intend to replace 2 modules 256 DDR 333 from GRT916V with 2 modules 512 DDR 266 from GRX because I need a large memory.

This is a overclocking for my sistem because FSB working at 333 (2*166) and the RAM normally at 266 (2*133) and now OC at 333 (2*166). This is step include a risk for DDR modules, because the GRT916V FSB=333 and the memory has only 266. I don¿t know. What is your opinion about this? Please ASAP.

Don't know whether the different memory will work but I have to ask "why are you cannibalising the GRX?" I have one of those and I think it's a fantastic machine

EEC,

If the board supports DDR 333 then us it, but if it's only supporting 256 then don't bother wasting money on 333 as it won't make any difference.

O course, the motherboard of GRT916V has a 333 support.
My question is if my 2*512 at 266 support this FSB=333. Please help me.

Sisoft Sandra 2004 should be able to tell you all this info.

Hi way dont you just try it? The system should recognise the ram speed and ajust to it. You can measure the ram performence with Sandra with both ram sets. I guess, that the overall performence of the system is better with 1 Giga ram even if the ram runs at 266 only.
