FX405 Screen Freeze

I. After upgrading to WINXP SP1 I experience random screen freezes, mostly when moving the mouse, but often even doing nothing for some minutes. Sometimes I have to restart the PC 4 or 5 times a day.

This problem seemed to have gone after updating to SP2 first prerelease, but came back after some updates. Anyone else had same experience/solution?

II. I tried to downlod the hotfixes from the Sony download center. When I want to install them, I get a message (translated from German) "Sorry, you are not allowed to open this SW-package."
What's wrong?

Sounds to me like you need to reinstall the Sony shared libraries.

Not sure why your screen is freezing. Hopefuly there's a graphics update?

Don't believe it's a bad graphic driver, but I will wait about 2 weeks, than completely reinstall the machine, test it and than upgrade to SP2 and see what's happing. I'm afraid this will not help. Some time ago I did a complete reinstall without SP1. This workd fine. Than I installed all available patches one after the other. Just when I found one module where the PC began to behave badly SP2 RC1 came out - and I forget what module it was. So I believe, there is an incompatibility bewtween the MS patches and my box or my installed SW. Just wondering if anybody else experienced the same.

Yep, apparently some hotfixes disagree with the VAIO
