VAIO PCG-Z1RMP- VIDEO CARD

It was very hard to see my Z1 , after 13 months , to have the video card not to respond at all.
In the beginning , my vaio could not read DVDs , I really dont know the relevance if any , and then after a month or so , the screen started to freeze.
I ve tryied to dowload the updated firmware , but the machine could not accept it.
After that , my laptop couldnt boot at all , so I have it somewhere in my room now , since after the conversation I had with a technician of Sony in the UK , told that the motherboard should be replaced which could cost from 800-1000 Euros.

I was and I am very satisfied with Sony products , recently I bought another vaio , but the Z1 was the one I loved the most.

Anyway , the reason I post this is to bring to your attention , that if something like that ( not reading DVDs only ) happens to your vaio , dont wait till the video card stop responding and take immediate action...

If someone has any suggestion , I would appreciate that.

Thx for your reply.Actually I thought to get a new vaio , VGN-FS115Z and to save some money later on to repair my Z1.
Do you know the prices for motherboard are that high for vaios?
It should be better to get skateboard next time 🙂

Hi!

I have a similar problem - nothing strange about plying DVDs but all of a sudden the screen turned black, power still on and computer would not react. Then it doesn't boot. After a while it would boot again, everything ok and sooner or later screen would turn black and freeze - is this what u are/were experiencing too?

How much guarantee do u have on it - 1 or 2 years?

Why would they have to change the mainboard? can't they just change the video card?

Well, how can I convince SONY VAIO-LINK of that??!??!!:smileysad:

First they tell me I have 2 years because I have bought it after Sep 2003, even if my certificate states 1 year... Then they start saying oh no, not really, actually only the modells produced after Sep 2003, although the manufacturing date is nowhere to see on the device or in the documentation...
Their newsticker from 8th March 2004 states quite clearly: the purchase date by the end-user, not the retailer purchase date!!!!

Seb, correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I remember the German government changed the rules late 2002, and so when you buy a VAIO in Germany it's covered by 2yrs.

I'm not sure, but I think since january 2002. But the pick up service is only one year.

If the warranty not over, Yes. Yeah I think the SonyCenter in Berlin is a good address to take it back.(for repair)

mmh, I don't know. I must never take back my laptop, because it is damaged.

Guys, stop talking nonsense about pick-up - THERE IS NO PICK-UP INCLUDED with the Sony warranty!!! It's a bring-in service... (well, WHEN and IF there's service at all :-D)

The government regulation you are referring to is smth else - it applies to retailers ONLY, not to manufacturers!!!
It says the retailer has to guarantee for the time of 2 years that the product WAS free of any material/manufacturing faults AT THE DATE OF PURCHASE!

So... What about my 1 year Sony warranty?!? Is it 1 or 2? The document says 1, the general manager's declaration says 2, the VAIO-Link people say 2 but then when coming to extending it they say 1 again and start talking about manufacturing date, although they had me produce a proof of the PURCHASE date...
I mean... WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO SMOKE ILLEGAL DRUGS WHEN ON DUTY?!?!

Well dear LUCKY Vaio users who haven't had any problem so far - THIS is Sony Corporation! Just beware and don't buy a Sony product again...

I have no legal protection insurance (Rechtschutzversicherung)... I have never needed one until I got to know Sony Deutschland GmbH and its customer lack-of-service...

I just look forward to my Minidisc Recorder breaking down so that I can get rid of ANYTHING that comes from Sony and never ever buy a Sony product again! Not even take it for free...

I HATE this company!!!

Well: charging 20 EUR for the pick up WHILE ON WARRANTY is not exactly my idea of a pick up service. I mean for money I can send it in myself - it's no difficulty.

That's exactly what I mean by bring-in - actually send-in; so u have to get the computer to them on YOUR expenses - either that you actually bring it in or you pay the shipment to the repairment centre (or pay Sony to pick it up, which is TWICE the price DHL charges for such a shipment).
