video to dvd transfer

Hi I am a bit of a technophobe but have a K415s and wondered if someone could tell me the best way to transfer video to DVD and what is the most home DVD friendly way to do this I have tried this to a DVD+R disc but my DVDplayer doesnt want to know.
Is there a more dvd player friendly way/format/program?

Yes, for analogue video.
If you have DV then just plug it in via iLink or USB

I have tried recording from DV through fire wire onto DVD+R but my dvd player didn't recognise a disc.
Any ideas and what is the best program to use to burn onto dvd

What brand of dvd player have you got? (Assuming you are talking about a seperate)

I ask because I've got a Sony dvd player but it won't have anything to do with any sort of writable or rewritable disc. All part of Sony's piracy paranoia I guess:smileysad:

its a wharfdale, fairly old.
i think it probably is more the compatibility with the player.

What is the best way to record onto dvd, which installed programme should i use. does the dvd i use make a difference?

My old DVD player won't play them, but the new one will.

I'm not too sure what pre-installed dvd writing software you have. You may have something like Click-To-DVD but whatever installed software you do have you should be able to use that.

What sort of video are you trying to copy? Is it already a file on your PC or is it a video casette tape that you want transferred to dvd?

As for the dvd that you have made so far can you see files on it if you open it with explorer? If you can't it might be that your vaio doesn't like that particular brand of dvd.

If you can see the files on the dvd I suspect that your Wharfdale doesn't recognise writable or rewritable discs.
