topic DSC-WX80 - white marks on the screen - camera unusable in Cyber-shot compact cameras

Hi there,

I have bought camera DSC-WX80 from Currys in May. Since then it has been used only a couple of times. Last week I wanted to transfer some phots and when I switch it on I noticed that about quater of the screen was white (as per attached photo). When I tried to take a photo, the camera switch itself to recording mode and froze.

Today, full of hopes as it is still on warranty, I took it back to Currys. The knowhow guy barely glanced at it and decided that the marks are caused by physical damage and therefore not covered by warranty - end of discussion. This was a bit of a shock for me as the camera was hardly used and I got a case for it when I bought the camera itself.

I had a few Sony cameras before and was always quite fond of them, so I'm still in a quite unpleasant shock. Was the Currys guy right - is it a physical damage not covered by warranty? I must add that there is no marks on the shell or screen itself, so I don't know how this is possible. Is this common with those cameras?

Many thanks
