WH-1000X M3 Bluetooth connection to iPad 2nd generation

Hi, I'm trying to connect my new wh-1000x m3 to my iPad (2nd generation, iOS 9) but the headphones don't seem to be picked up by the iPads Bluetooth!? I've tried resetting etc but no joy. Also, tried downloading the Sony headphones connect app on the iPad but got a message saying "not available on this device". Does this mean I won't be able to listen to my iPad over Bluetooth with the wh-1000x m3's!? Any help would be much appreciated.
