Mac or PC or both?

I am a Mac native but have just started to enjoy Hi Res audio on Sony portable players. I find the fact that they are battery powered makes them one of the cleanest sources imaginable. I am hooking up my player to every system I possess (I am a bit of a hifi nut) and am staggered by how much more I hear, despite having played Hi-Res files off mains-powered computers for years. To be honest there simply is no comparison. None. I am now wondering how to get battery power for my hi-fi components (DACs, amplifiers) - not expecting that I will actually manage this however.

Now, it's entirely possible to use a Sony portable player with a Mac - the Mac just sees the player as a storage device - but it's not possible to create playlists etc. This is beginning to irk me slightly.

Can anybody advise me on the following: is it possible to use the player in conjunction with both Macs and PCs (I have access to a couple of PC laptops, although I'm not well-versed in Windows) - INTERCHANGEABLY? I know the Sony software allows EITHER operating system to be used (with a wider range of functions for PC) but I want to know if I can continue eg loading Hi-Res files onto the player using my Mac and then modify the content into playlists with a PC? If anybody has experience of this I'd be grateful. A bit unwilling to hook my player up to a PC until I'm sure it won't overwrite everything. Also prefer to work with Mac for downloading and transferring music files (but that's less of an issue, tbh).
