Several devices pass through a HDMi splitter using optical cable, the optical output from the splitter goes to a Sony STR-DG700 AV amp. The only optical output on the AV amp is for MD/tape. Ideally I would like to connect the DS6500 to the amp. It appears the only other audio output from the amp is analog. My TV does not have a digital audio output either. So, if I connect to the amp using an analog cable would this limit audio quality? For instance, when watching a movie transmitted in Dolby Digital etc.

The other alternative could be to connect the DS6500 to the optical output of the HDMi splitter. Am I correct in thinking the DS6500 will perform the neccessary decoding. I don't suppose the DS6500 has an optical passthrough to save me plugging in and unplugging cables?

Sorry for all the questions. Digital cordless headphones are entirely new to me. This is quite an expensive item and I don't want to make a mistake with any purchase.
