lack of coaxial connection for antenna - Why?

I'm willing to fork out a couple, possibly a few, of hundred quid for a radio and i have always had good experience with sony so that was my first port of call. however, while there are many products that meet most of my needs - they all fall down on the one thing that is most inportant to me - they use a sony specific connection for the antenna instead of a coaxial one.

I don't want many watts so buying a hi-fi just to get a coaxial connection seems like overkill.

Hi there

I cannot really answer your exact question on why a standard coaxial connection is not used, in favour of a proprietory connection - but depending upon your skill level and connector design, it is possible to modify it.
