how about raising the volume by 1 click and lowering by a long press? Here's how: change the left ear settings to volume control in system setting (change touch sensor function). That's all!!
did that solve the problems?

I have had the WF-1000XM4 buds for a few weeks now and am generally really impressed.

I have several other wireless buds that don't sound anywhere as good as these but the Sony's fall short of perfect in one respect ... the inability to control volume, playback and ambient / NC without using the phone.

I have the default settings of right bud for playback control and left for ambient sound / NC however this means that I can't control volume.

I never use the long press features on either bud in this state so would like to see an option where long press left = volume down & long press right = volume up and leaving everything else as-is.

Easiest solution would be to add a 'long press always defaults to volume up / down' checkbox option in the "Change the touch sensor function" section of the [System] screen in the app.

Possible?

It's really hard to say whether the touch controls support that or not, but from the app side of things, it's an easy yes of course.

Have you tried reaching out to the Sony support reps to leave your feedback? I usually do it via email (and I've done so now too, to add my voice behind this feature, extra customization never hurts!)

Hope this helps!

- JD

I emailed the support team and they responded saying the enhancement request would be passed on ... fingers crossed!

No ... because I want to keep the left touch sensor controlling NC / ambient mode and the right sensor controlling play / pause etc!

Since I first posted I bought the latest Creative Outlier Air V3 as backup buds and they appear to be able to handle what I need with no issues (they don't sound great compared to the Sony's of course).
