Hello,

I find the WiFi on this phone to be quite unreliable with my BT Smart Hub. The connection will intermittently stall and send no data. I have tried different modes, switching between 802.11ac to 802.11n to 802.11g but it makes little difference.

Is Sony aware of a problem here?

Thanks,

Paul

Welcome to the community.

I'm just going to try to find some answers for you. In the meantime, maybe someone else in the community might have some ideas.

Thanks,

Hi @paul4os

First question: How is it in safe mode?

There are occasions that an installed app is causing trouble.

By booting in safe mode only the preinstalled apps will start.

Second:

I presume you did reset your BT Smart Hub as well.

From the manual:

Check the following router settings using a computer. If you are not sure how to change the settings, check the user guide of the router or contact your router manufacturer.

Restart the router. Pull the plug out and wait for 1 minute to put it back in. This will reset your router (don't worry, no data is lost).
Also, confirm if your router is Wi-Fi certified. Your device is Wi-Fi certified, so if the router isn't, your devices may not communicate properly.

To check if your router is Wi-Fi certified

Look for the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED logo or phrase on the product packaging or in the product literature, or search the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products database on the Wi-Fi Alliance website.

Check the following router settings using a computer. If you are not sure how to change the settings, check the user guide of the router or contact your router manufacturer.

Router Settings

Network mode/speed: Change to auto or mixed mode instead of b, g or n.

SSID and password: Make sure there are no special characters or characters which are not in the standard ASCII character set.

DHCP: Make sure it’s turned on. You could also try setting a static IP address if you have problems accessing the internet using your Wi-Fi connection.

MAC filter: Make sure it’s turned off. Also set your device as allowed.

Channel: Try using another channel, preferably 11 or lower.

Add your device’s MAC address to the MAC filtering table of the Wi-Fi router. Some routers require your MAC address.
For instructions on adding MAC addresses to the MAC filtering table of the router, refer to the router user guide or contact your router manufacturer.

To check the MAC address of your device

Find and tap Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi .

Tap Wi‑Fi preferences → Advanced . The MAC address is displayed in the list.

Other option:

Reset network settings on your device.

settings -> type <reset> -> find reset network settings

How is your device's connection to other routers?

No problems here at home and no problems at work with different setup. Might be your BT Smart Hub the culprit.
