Fingerprint Recognition not working.

I have done all the usual things , cleaning the sensor, re starting,

The phone has shown at times the notice the ' Finger print recognition hardware not working" .

I will not allow me to delete my current fingerprint.

Last thing I want to do is return the phone to Factory Settings.

Any help appreciated

Hi it's an Xperia 1 lV around 3 years old , fully up to date .

Fingerprint Recognition hardware not Available is still coming up.
