My Sony Xperia phone camera is very slow to take pictures sometimes seconds after pressing the shutter

You're right, that's normal.

Take any device, any brand and start the camera app.

Compare.

Or check cameras.

Even many cameras take their time to start.

No this is not the app starting delay. This is not a normal delay but a
very long delay before the picture is taken. But y thanks for your input

Hi there, if the delay is for seconds, it could be adjusting the focus of the photo before capturing it if the auto focus is enabled or if the auto focus is the only option for taking pictures on the device.

It obviously needs to be in focus so if it is this is there a way of speeding up the focussing??

No, i don't think there are settings for the focus speed on the camera, it's just enable or disable the focus.
