If the phones are sold through T-mobile, then they will be network branded so this could be implemented but that will be up to T-mobile to enable this feature or not.

These phones are not being sold by any US carrier.

Then unless T-mobile request this feature to be implemented on a SIM free phone it won't work. My opinion, it's unlikely that it'll work but it'll be wise to contact T-mobile.

@uliwooly is totally right, I am using a t-mobile sim card on my XZp and nope, no, nu, niet. It is not working. I contacted t-mobile and their 1st reply before escalation was "What's an XZ Premium" - then the 2nd person was a bit more "pro" and answered that there are no plans at this moment to support other devices other than T-Mobile branded and capable of VoLTE phones.

Notice: Those are t-mobile statements, not mine. I remember that my NextBit ROBIN was working without problems in VoLTE with t-mobile (wife's phone number), so if your sim card is VoLTE enabled it should be working without problems.

Same goes for AT&T. I have the latest AT&T SIM and cannot get VoLTE or WiFi calling.

Guess this phone is going back to Best Buy. This is a huge fail.... No response from Sony in here and over the phone they have no clue.

Well I mean fail for the fact the US version should have been tested with the US carriers. I love this phone very much. This is a hard decision.

It has been tested, that's why you are able to buy it here in the USA, what you are referring is to why such features aren't available with SIM free/unlocked phones, and the answer is simple.

Carrier/networks want you to buy phones through them, so the phone will be network branded/SIM locked and you can have extra features, they, carrier/networks, don't want to spend resources with SIM free phones; in this case, T-mobile, will have to add their features and customization and then test it with their network and repeat this process as Sony release more updates. If you think about it, what's in for T-mobile if they aren't selling the phone?

I understand completely.... Why do it for the XZ1? There are US Unlocked phones work perfectly fine.
