If the problem is resolved then one of your installed apps is causing this issue and you have to figure out which one. Start by uninstalling those apps you installed recently.

Hi, after using my new XZs for some days I found that my security prompts now appear in funny accented characters, whether I'm asked to authorise apps to use certain features as well as adding screen locks. Could my phone's security be compromised by hackers or other malicious elements?

@homerulez

Then I'd suggest that you perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. This will do a clean installation of the latest firmware and will also wipe your internal memory. Don't forget to backup using Xperia Companion, but without adding apps or settings to the backup.

Follow the steps given in blue links, and keep us updated.

have you been tinkering with language settings? go to Settings > Languages & input > Languages and check if "English (XA)" is enabled. it's a language option used by developers.

also, there's a common misconception about "hackers" - if someone were to get into your phone and snoop on your data, they wouldn't make any changes like this one that would alarm you.
