Thanks guys, this is only my second android (xperia z2) phone my first was a xperia s which had a built in SD(32GB)card. Not sure how much the SD helped out with system updates on the "s" (GB to ICS to JB)! Not to worried about losing my apps(rather not) all acquired from play store and tweaked by Advanced permissions manager! Have unlimited data but have very limited access to WiFi so when I do gain access (probably my bank) I won't have much prep time!!! Back up as much as I can to Google with sync run a VPN through browser, job done?? I hope! Any thoughts/ideas are more thanwelcome if only to title me a "_ick".... Thanks....

No you can't and I have no idea why that is, ask Sony. don't need SD card to update. yes you need to back up but beware you can not back up some apps or game datas so you have to redownload them apps but good bye datas. but you can use the drive app to back up apps tho. if you don't know how to then I can't explain that but I know how too. 🙂

If you get a notification saying a system update is available via OTA (wi-fi) then yes you can update without an SD card and you shouldn't loose any data - You would if you ran a system repair to update but not a normal system update

Hi, yes....as mentioned if you get a Notification saying that a Software Update is available all you have to do is click on it & it simply downloads over your WiFi.....no problems/hassle.....nice & simple......although i would advise that you are somewhere where you have a good strong WiFi signal & it is an 'uninterupted' one...ie it wont cut out/drop too much :smileysmileywink:
