Cannot update to new firmware on sony xperia e

i try to update my phone to new firmware using PC companion . the update stuck when it ask for preparing to update which asking me to turn off the phone plugin usb cable to pc and while holding volume down key insert another end of usb cable to the phone. i tried holding down the button but still it cannot recognize my phone....on device manager, i saw new device with name SOMC flash device , and it isn't working correctly.. i also tried downloading emma , still my device is not recognised / not detected ...

Are you using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64 bit system - If you are then you need to run PC Companion in compatibility mode or use another system runing Windows 7 32bit or any other 32bit system

No XP is fine - Do you have USB debugging enabled - If you do then disable this and try again - USB debugging is for manual flashing or installing custom roms
