Sony PC Companion does not work

i am trying to update my phone and Sony PC Companion keeps closing down

any ideas on how to fix this

Could you elaborate a bit what happens when you are trying to update? Did you get any error message?

it finds my phone, it tells me there is an update so i click to run the update it gets to the downloading stage goes hal way and then says sony pc companion HAS STOPPED WORKING

The Sony update service is no longer available.it stopped being available on 21st July 2014, says the Internet

When it says, PC Companion has stopped working, try to leave it working for a couple of minutes. You could also try on another PC.
