Hi thanks for replying. I tried what you said but it's still stuck on safe mode. Is it a hardware error or a software error?

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Xperia S will enter safe mode if you have the volume down pressed during the start up of the device. So this is most likely related to the problem you have with the volume down button. Have you tried to restart the device by press and hold the power button and volume up at the same time?

If you still experience the same behavior, I suggest that you have your phone examined by a service center. Please contact your local Xperia support team for more information:

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
