Hello all

I've endured my Z1C for a couple of months now, and in desperation I'm looking to those more knowledgeable for assistance.

The issues i'm having are:

1) Fluctuating network signal. Whilst i'm always able to make a call (th thing I do with my phone least). The major problem with this is that my data network connectivity fluctuates so much between H+, H, and GPRS that apps are mostly useless

this leads me neatly onto problem 2

2) Poor wifi range..because of the poor wifi range my phone reverts to mobile data depending on where I am in my (modest) house. Because of the issues listed in 1) this reanders the apps unuseable. Also when I return to the area of limited range the phone won't reconnect unless I turn the wifi off/on. If I go out and try to use mobile data and I haven't turned off the wifi before I leave router range then I can receive no data traffic at all unless I restart the handset

3) Google play store is unavailable on anything other than wifi

4) unable to connect to free wifi (such as Asda) which is necessary due to the issues listed in 1)

5 )Bluetooth connection to my Parrot in car hands free is at best intermittant. If it decides to connect all is well, however I cannot rely on this as 50% of the time it decides not to connect. Having the audacity to think I can run bluetooth and wifi at the same time makes all the above issues worse

6) keypad vibration gives up half way through a long message/rant

7) camera is slow to open from the lock screen (if it works at all), and if you take a photo from a slow opening camera condition its 50/50 if it will store

I'm sure I could add more issues/concerns if I put my mind to it

for the record I am running the latest firmware 14.3.A.0.757 and the handset has just been 'repaired' via the pc companion to no avail.

Am I asking too much for this phone to work 'out of the box'? Personally I don't see having to disable functions, restrict how I use the handset, constantly force stop apps, or reset/restart the phone as acceptable

I contacted Sony via chat regarding some of the issues listed above via chat and they were hopeless. I was previously running an iphone 4S (for two years) and had nil concerns. I am unimpressed to say the least

Very weird. I'm having none of those issues at the moment. Wifi is fine. (Router is on the bottom story of the house).

I am able to connect to my car via bluetooth and use stream Pandora with no issues. Play store also works perfectly fine for me.

My camera loads within 1-2 seconds from the lock screen after the swipe.

Who is your service provider? I'm with T-mobile and have a constant LTE / HSPA signal. ($30 walmart plan) (I turn off LTE when I'm at home).

As you can see full bar for LTE.

Maybe you need to reinstall kit-kat? Maybe something went wrong with the update?

I honestly can't help you because I do not own that phone... but regarding #2 on your list, please check the following

- Go to WiFi Settings

- Tap Menu

- Select "Advance"

Finally see if there is an option to disable "Avoid poor connections"

This option is available in my old Xperia Acro S and it prevents the phone to connect o WiFi that are far away (1-2 bars)... and I absolutely hate it, since its like basically limiting the range of your WiFi connection...

Also Enable "Auto IP support", it helps for certain router configurations.

Hi guys

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread. I have been into the advanced wifi settings and 'avoid poor wifi' is switched off. I also had issues setting up the wifi connection to my gopro hero 3+ black, which was less than a metre from my phone. It seems the handset gets confused and ties itself in knots when asked to manage more than one kind of connection. This i feel is one of the contributory factors with regards to the other issues i'm having.

Just get used to it... Android is not the same as iPhones which in most cases "just work"..

I have had 4 iPhones before getting a bit tired of it, then "upgraded" to a HTC One (M7) .. I took me 6 months of utter frustrations to settle into all the quirks of having an Android versus the thourough (hancuffed) experience of Apple.

My biggest gripe with Android has been the lack of iTunes and proper backup !!!!! - i still dont know what the **bleep** Android people do to make a proper / complete backup - it's simply impossible ! .. With an iPhone, i could toss it into the ocean, buy a new, log into iCloud or plug it into iTunes and i would continue on the new iPhone as if i nothing happened !

Regarding signal strength and connectivity - Android is yet again not the same as iPhone - Most companies optimize for iPhones because they are more popular and forget to optimize for Android - but who can blame them, there are 1000 different Androids and only 3 kinds of iPhone.

My HTC One broke on me - and im torn apart about what phone to get next. As it seems, Sony Z1 Compact has caught my eyes, but everyone i've talked to who has one, has issues with theirs ...

Maybe i should just go back to the safe choice of yet another iPhone ...

ps. Thanks for telling your story !

As yet none of my gripes are resolved. But as promised here is another that I forgot previously.
Headphone volume......it won't go up enough for me to extract any kind of performance out of any accessories that I plug in. For example. I used to dock my iPhone to a Teac Aurb which I love to bits. Because there is no universal android dock I have to resort to using a feed from the headphones jack. Sony feels the need to nanny my ears and won't trust me with enough volume to actually be able to hear more than six feet away from the unit. This is ANNOYING! Yes I know could root my device and remove this ridiculous constant, but once again I'm led to ask the question "why should I have to?" my earlier disdain and indifference for this phone is rapidly turning into loathing. I notice no assistance or comment has been made by Sony in this thread.....

So....I thought i'd give everyone an update on my phone situation

After the expense and hassle of replacing my SIM card (fruitlessly) at the request of my Network Operator I called Sony direct and gave them the full rundown of my symptoms. They recommended I send my handset in for repair. As I had to book in my own repair? I had to go through it all again via a web form. I sent off the phone and a few days later received an email back saying the handset was unrepairable and they would send me out a 'replacement' as laid out in the terms and conditions of the warranty. Bear in mind the phone has never worked as advertised but unfortunately since I had no personal benchmark for a sony or android phone. The replacement was duly sent and received. At this point the problems started again......

They say a picture paints a thousand words....i'll let these pics do the talking...

This is what Sony deems to be acceptable...scratched to bits, dust inside the camera, and missing a SIM tray (so unuseable). I now have to wait another week for them to decide what to do about this, and then presumably another week to get a replacement (if they send one at all).........unimpressed...again

So....contacted Sony today to see if there were any updates...The lady I spoke to was very polight and as helpful as she could be within her remit, however....As its with the escalations team I have to sit tight and wait...again, its been two weeks since I originally sent my phone for repair, but lets not forget...it never worked properly from day one

What outcome am I to expect from this? anybody's guess...the possible scenarios I can see happening are (in no particular order):

1) I get told to lump it, and they send me out a sim tray so I can at least fire the phone up (highly likely)

2) They send me another recon handset, which is less damaged (maybe that might have a sim tray)

3) I get sent a shiny new handset (the decent thing to do)

4) I get a shiny new handset and an apology (highly unlikely)

OK...as thought, I was told to lump it and accept the rotten quality replacement. Apparently the handset was sent back to me in exactly the same condition I sent it in...strange that as its a different handset!!! I pointed this out to the rep I was speaking to and he was initially adamant that they had spoken with the repair centre and what i'd been sent was my case with different internals and a new screen (whatever!). When it was clear to the operator that I wasn't going to be taken for a mug he 'did some digging' and came back to tell me that I was indeed correct and I had been sent another handset. This had obviously already been confirmed by email, and the delivery note. Top and bottom of it is i've had to send the replacement off (via the VIP service no less) in the hope of receiving something resembling an acceptable workable phone. I am now entering week four without a phone (not a sony one anyway), and if I hadn't pushed the point or been a little more clued up, I would have been left high and dry.

Forgive me I if don't hold my breath while I wait for the carriage drawn by unicorns that will be bringing my spotless replacement unit :smileysmileywink:
