Does Sony Xperia XA2 support the installation of non-market APK?

I am developing my first Android app (by Android Studio). I wanted to see if a "release" build apk really runs on the phone (signiture added). The "debug" build runs fine on the phone (via ADB).

But whatever way I try to install a release build, the installation fails, with the nothing-saying message "App not installed".

After browsing similar issues I bumped into this:

"some devices may block the installation of non-market apks."

QUESTION: Does Sony Xperia XA2 support the installation of non-market APK?

(if th answer is "yes", then I will raise a new question to find out why install fails).

I don't think the phone would support the installation of non-market APK, guess you'd have to verify your app from Google Play Protect.

Thank you for the hint.

Then I am going to "fall back" to Google Play Protect (I wanted a simple method, not this hassle).

It is on the other hand annoying, that Sony is simply reluctant to give a stright (actually any kind of) answer.
