MTP support ofr LInux Ubuntu 12.04

Hi,

Got my Xperia S since ... 6 hours, and I'm sad.

I'm a full Ubuntu user and it seems to be impossible to transfer file to my Xperia S with Ubuntu 12.04.

MTP is supported on linux BUT Apple and Sony are the only manufacturer that uses a specific File Transfer Protocol.

If there's any solution please help me.

Otherwise I will return my XS and get a Galaxy Nexus.

Dear manufacturers,

please stop doing "specific things" whereas there are standards,

please give more support for Linux plateforms (Facebook Video Chat, iphone, ...), we exists and we are legion,lol

I'm very sad...

there are work around this, but you will have to do this on every computer that you use, (Mac and Linux) might aswell get another phone, perhaps the Ion or GX

Unfortunately the only workaround I've found is from xda-developper by the great Doomlord: he made an app that permit to connect Xperia S as a media storage. BUT to use it I need to root the phone which will break up my garantee (need to unlock bootloader, etc...).

It confirm that the issue is not from Ubuntu or Mac but from Xperia S and it's sh**ty MTP.

I'm a Android fan, Ubuntu fan and I can't stand with a device/manufacturer which is Micro$oft only.

Bye the way, Samsung Galaxy S2 success reasons:

- extensible memory

- easy root and custom ROM install (source code was provided to developper)

- good support for dev (xda-dev)

- slim device

the Xperia Arc is great and the new Arc will be the GX and there are rumors on the LT30i/Mint/Z but perhaps the SIII it's for you more than the xperia S

Yep,

I will leave the great HD screen and awesome camera of the XS for the Galaxy Nexus.

At least I will have stock Android and all last updates done by Google (without waiting 6 month or forever (ironic)).

Indeed, Sony MUST stop this nonsense that OEMs are doing w/ this over customizations, why can't they just release vanilla android preloaded w/ their skins BUT as apps not integrated to the code, I know few features must but there has to be a way around it.

I totally agree,

to OEMs:

install stock Android
optimize hardware
do your customizations as skins, themes, apps
unlock bootloader

Remember that Android OEMs need to unify against Window$ and Apple, so stop doing things on your own, participate to Android developpment, be different by the hardware and design you're capable of.
