Purchased Xperia Ion today - ICS in the near future?

I purchased my Xperia Ion LTE today from AT&T ( I have 15 days to return). I was using the Xperia Arc S with ICS. My question: Ice Cream Sandwich - will it be coming to the AT&T Xperia Ion or should I reconsider. I am missing ICS experience that is on my Arc S (gave to my wife) as well as not having the ability to install numerous ICS specific apps. I see China already had the ICS on the Ion. Is the update (if at all) near?

I've asked the same question, but since your Ion it's locked to a network you have to ask big blue if they have ICS plans for this phone, there are Ions on other countries and you could always flash their ICS as soon as it's available

Official ICS for the Ion through AT&T should be out sometime around October.

I do beleive I will have to return this Ion. Unfortunately, I cannot wait months for the ICS update having used it on the Arc S and not having the ability to use numerous key apps in my day to day activities To name a few - Evernote (slower), Google Drive..Sharing pictures through these apps is virtually impossible. I have to email the pictures to my laptop to post to Drive and send through Gmail on laptop...not very useful...The Arc allowed download to phone where I could send through the Xperia gallery quickly - no issues...the Gallery on the Ion does not support this feature. The Astro File Manger Pro does not work on this phone either...the Pro key will not install on this platform. Very disappointed with phone. More to come -

Drive works with 2.3.7, can you take a screenshot of the gallery app sharing options?

Google Drive does Run on the phone - you cannot share from the gallery when you Download from Google drive - Hard to show example of No Menu - the steps to reproduce are as follows:

1. Post Image on Google Drive from, let's say, your laptop

2. Open Google Drive on the Xperia Ion and sync

3. Select Picture and download starts

4. The Gallery Opens image .."loading new albums and photos"...No MENU popup available hence no Share from Menu icon on...Just Zoom in and Out. Long press with finger on pictures to open sub-menu to SHARE...will not display

In the picture below Note that there is no Gallery Breadcrumb on top left corner - all that is available is the PLUS and MINUS buttons to zoom. The Popup menu with the ability SHARE...will not show.

Talk to the app developers about their app not being compatible. Its up to them to fix whatever it is that makes it not work with certain devices. Hoping to get my Ion this week so I can check some of these issues too.

I understand that the app developer is responsible for the compatibility. I am pointing out that once the image is downloaded to the Xperia - The Gallery does not function properly with the downloaded image. The image has left Google Drive and is now on the Ion. Does not appear to be Google Drive related. In addition - the Astro Pro Key works on the X10a with last update from SE as well as the Arc S with ICS. I will not worry about the Astro - although, the Ion Gallery issue and functionality is related to Sony.

Keep in mind, I am not bashing the phone. I have been an avid supporter of SE and Sony for years..the issues on this phone are very noticeable - as I use it more and more I am starting to see numerous issues that MIGHT be fixed with the ICS introduction

Google Plus is uploading pictures fine to Picasa. Basically, Google Plus is Picasa as we all know - The GDrive is for Business Pictures that one can share individually. It's odd that the built in galley cannot distinguish downloaded images to share. The true difference in the gallery is I was using Xperia Gallery as opposed to the "Gallery" on the Ion.

Side Note for ICS: I do miss the ability to DISABLE apps that I will never use on the phone.

I just tried the Google Drive thing you mentioned with my Ion and Xperia S and its the same on both devices. Also once you click on the image and it loads if you exit out and go back into the gallery the file is not there. I don't think it is actually downloading the image to the phone. I also tried by making the image available offline and that still did not work.

I don't have a non-sony android phone that I can try it on. Have you been able to get the share menu to come up before on a different android device from Google drive? Wondering if its a Google Drive issue and not something with Sony's software.

The Google Drive issue I specified WORKS on the Xperia Arc S (ICS) AND the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx (Gingerbread - tested on friend’s phone). The Arc S uses Xperia Gallery and Motorola used it's proprietary Gallery. Both phones downloaded and shared. Did you get the ICS update for the Xperia S yet? This might fix the issue on the Xperia S.

Not yet, still waiting for my SI number to come up. Hopefully soon. As soon as I update I'll give it a try to see if that fixes the issue.
