BBC iPlayer UHD

I have recently purchased as Sony 65XH90(UK) and non of the UHD content will play via iPlayer including the rest loop, all other content is fine. This is 2nd panel I’ve had with the same problem , my LG tv plays iPlayer UHD content fine so it’s definitely the Sony TV

You're not alone.... See the "Anyway to disable Youview" thread. I've reported it to the iPlayer tech support. It may be the result of the recent firmware update to a lot of Sony Android TVs. I'm hoping to get a second reply back from iPlayer support today. Other users need to report it too. It may be likely to be a Sony problem and probably needs to be reported to them too.

Hi, also on second response to BBC Iplayer about this issue, its maybe the way it has been implemented with Youview. Before the FW update iplayer worked independently of Youview but now if you disable Youview iplayer will not load at all. Waiting response from Iplayer.

Hi. UHD programmes doesn’t even start and I just get a whirling circle as if it’s trying to load. Worked fine before. Pretty sure I’m on most recent software now updated to 17.11.1.0

unfortunately I now have a new issue that no catch up apps on youview work!

So iPlayer technical are aware of this issue and so it appears are Youview, the latest version of Youview was part of the 6.4960 firmware update on my XG9505. Looking at the playstore Youview download now called LIVE TV & CATCHUP this paragraph is at the end of the description:

"We are aware of compatibility issues with this app on some Sony TVs. If you have a 2018 / 2019 Sony TV (XG80 XG85 XG95 AG8 AG9 ZG9) it will not function properly. Please do not download the app until further notice."

I have an xg80 tv and my UHD on iplayer is working fine,maybe you need to update iplayer ?

If only it were that easy.............

On most of not all of the TV's suffering this problem iPlayer is part of the YouView (LiveTV and Catch Up) app and controlling updates seems to be far from simple and may be linked to recent firmware updates to the TV's themselves.

For reference my IPlayer Application Version* is : 17.11.2.0 on a KD-XH8505 and UHD streams don't work.

(*can be found in iPlayer Settings>Help>System Version)

It would be interesting if users whose UHD is actually working could post their TV model no and IPlayer Version number

Is there any pattern??

The iplayer version I have is application version 17.11.2.0

So on a XG80 version 17.11.2.0 it works and on a XH85 it doesn't.... Must be the TV firmware?.... 🙄

Latest Android 9 firmware version on XH85 is v. 6.4960.

I'm not sure if this helps but ,i manually installed the latest firmware ,from sony support using a usb drive,maybe there's a pending update for your firmware maybe on sony support,my update dated oct2020 .

I've had my set since march

2020,

and my only gripe is processor power !

It's very recent... 26th November 2020.

My TV installed it itself on the day after it was released.

I can't be completely sure but I don't think UHD streams on iPlayer worked on the previous firmware either

My installed software details are PKG6.4960.0628EUA . (This was always going to be diferent to any software on an XG series TV....?)

Yes I'm sure your right,Let's hope they sort out the iplayer issue,it's funny though the some people with xg80 range of tv's seem to have the same issue,as you ?

Hi. My firmware is the same as yours.
my UHD worked fine before this download on the 26th. Both BBC and Sony are working on it hopefully.
