BBC iplayer not loading as of 2 days ago.

I have a KDL 50W805C and two days ago the BBC iplayer would no longer load,

It opened and I got the message that it was loading but the screen stayed that way,

Tried rebooting but same problem.

Went to the bbc iplayer problem page and found that this was the case with some Samsung TV's and other smart TV's. Sony Bravia was not mentioned specifically.

They are trying to fix it and hope to have a solution soon!

Has anyone had this problem?

I don’t have your Bravia TV, but I do have a Samsung UE32J6300 that has had the problem of the BBC iPlayer hanging at the ‘Loading’ screen since August 2018.

A few days ago, I checked again, and found the issue was fixed.

As you have had this only recently though, I don’t think it can be the same issue.

Unless, possibly, the update that fixed mine also broke yours?

As ever with these Sony TVs though, try a Factory Reset. This will cure many ills, so much so that problems with these sets are only taken seriously, it seems, if they survive this process.

Not keen on a Factory reset.

It will be the last possible option if I can avoid it.

Did a factory reset and still no joy with BBC iplayer. Still stays on loading.

Spent a fair while setting up the TV again with other apps.

It's a pity that there is no way to back up your settings so that it is not such a painful process.

BBC iplayer working again as of today.

I had to sign in using my accounts on PC but now working.

Wife delighted busily adjusting her programs.

Same here, iPlayer, ITV Hub and All 4 stopped working. Other apps are fine. Have tried powercycling, clearing cache, clearing data etc. to no avail.

Do you have youview installed? We had to go through the catchup tv app (youview app) to find all the UK catchup apps plus britbox.
Go to the app (if you have it) and press th eup arrow on the remote to see the apps.

Same problem - unable to start catch up apps except using Youview. Fix turned out to be very easy -

Settings-Privacy- Location Status Was set to use wifi to estimate location. Changed it to 'Off'.

Same here. Very disappointed. I had no catch up services on purchase in Jun 2021 and Sony gave feeble excuses util Christmas. Now it's stopped working.

Try what I did

Go to settings

Settings-Privacy- Location Status Was set to use wifi to estimate location. Changed it to 'Off'.

Takes a minute.

I have a similar issue on our KD55AF9. Tried the normal fixs including the wifi location one,wthout sucess. Didn't want to dona full reset due to complex app setup.

iPlayer normal accessed via the Sony Select app, which still works for other catchup tv services such as ITVX. As suggested by others, I found access to a working iPlayer via the Sony "LIVE TV & CATCH UP" app, which opens up the youview app.

This solution still works! - and the problem causing it is still cropping up. My broadband went down so I'm using a MyFi with an EE SIM for replacement WiFi. BBC, ITVX, Ch.4 apps refuse to work, saying 'Network error'. Switching Privacy/Location/Estimate Using WiFi to 'Off' solved the problem - but this is pretty odd, because

a) my public IP address shows up as belonging to EE in Uxbridge, so why on earth would that be a problematic location for iPlayer, ITVX etc?

b) Why does switching this off work? Essentially the catch-up apps are asking the Sony TV, 'where are you?' Presumably to prevent UK programming being viewed elsewhere. And when the TV replies 'don't know, my location estimation is switched off', the apps go, 'oh ok then' and allow access? How is that logical?

Very glad of the fix, though.

@Oneeyedguy Maybe its related to the platforms themselves like BBC and ITV, because I think Sony will not have a hand in the internal coding and programming of the App itself.
